Nokia ties up with Jolla's Sailfish OS for Nokia N950

Nokia looking for new Windows Alternatives - Jolla's Sailfish OS looks like one

Many of us didn't know that before getting into windows Phone OS, Nokia had launched handset Nokia N9 with the MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan OS. Though Meego was not developed further as nokia Ceo decided to ditch Meego & move on with windows OS. But Meego certainly had potential to compete with android and finally successor 'Sailfish' shows up.

Jolla's new OS Sailfish - which is based on the meego OS was demonstrated by CEO Marc Dillon
Jolla's Sailfish OS supports real multitasking, the minimized apps can appear as cards on the homescreen. Each card can be customized by developers to display real-time app info and controls which is a great feature.

Though Jolla is still working on the sailfish, it looks quite promising and it will be a real evolution. Jolla’s biggest differences vs. all other mobile platforms is : ability of interacting with the several other apps on the OS home screen”. In other os where you swipe left-right to go to next screen, Sailfish has up-down swipe.

It  looks very interesting at a first glance, it really going to put lot of restrictions to app developers, who will have to design their apps considering not 4 or 5 inches of smartphone, but 2-3 inches.  And while music player control and other shown native apps look great, you wont be able e.g. to browse web from 2-3 inches screen – you will have to dive into the app itself anyway.

You also wont watch video on 2-3 inches thumbnail. So the uses of this “ real multitasking” are very limited.
Which actually makes Jolla “one more touchscreen OS with grids and tiles.”
